Narayan Dharap is a Scottish writer who has written many books including "The 39 Clues", "The Indian in the Cupboard" and "The Witch's Boy". He was born near Glasgow, Scotland. As a child he read books all the time. When he got older, his parents could not afford to buy him every book he wanted so they would scour second-hand bookstores for good bargains. They found great treasures in these stores including some of his favourite authors like Roald Dahl, C.S. Lewis and JRR Tolkien whose books are now considered classics that have been translated into multiple languages around the world. He attended the Glasgow School of Art from which he graduated in 1979. He then went on to work as a cartoonist for a newspaper from 1980 to 1982. In 1983, he decided to become a writer and attended the University of Glasgow to study creative writing. In 1985 he got his first book published which was "The Snowman." It was a mixture of fiction and non-fiction set in Norway. He won the Carnegie Medal for this book in 1986 and has since written many more books including "The 39 Clues", "The Indian in the Cupboard" and "The Witch's Boy".
